The opening of the Heart School in Hiddi is just around the corner! This project has been a challenging journey due to Ethiopia’s civil conflict and the rising cost of construction materials. Yet, with determination and support, we’ve managed to overcome these hurdles to bring this vision to life. Designed by Khaled Abou Taam, Ali El-Afi, Ekaterina Abou Taam, and Catherine Zalzali from Lebanon, this school will soon welcome 113 children, offering them education close to home. Special thanks to the NGO Abay Ethiopia for their tireless dedication to making this project a reality. The NGO Let's Build My School has organized a volunteer trip to Senegal and 16 participants of the competition from all around the world are participating in it! We are so happy to see all of you working together for such a beautiful purpose. Santiago, the director of the winning team, didn't want to miss the event and has also travelled all the way from Colombia to spend the week with the NGO, the local workers, and the rest of volunteers. One step closer to see the design of our winning team from Lebanon built in real life.
Carlos and Mauro are part of SOM Studio, the winners of the Senegal Elementary School competition. They have travelled to Marsassoum to help in the construction. They have brought with them the machines to make the adobe bricks they will be using in the school. Santiago, the director of SOM Studio, will travel during the next days and will be part of the official volunteer trip organized by Let's Build My School, where he will meet with other participants of the competition!
Archstorming is thrilled to announce that Abay has already gathered the necessary funds to start the construction of the schools in Hiddi and Dillu! The local constructor has just started with the earth-moving work and during the next few months they will be working tirelessly to see the project of the winning team from Lebanon built in real life. This is so exciting! The last details of the Tulum Plastic School are being finished and in the next few days we will see the final result of the amazing school built by Los Amigos de la Esquina and Mom I'm Fine. Also, they have partnered up with the incredible artist Oscar Olivares, who will cover the whole school with a mural made of recycled plastic caps. The NGO Let's Built My School spent this day doing some more tests to understand how to compose the free from concrete foundations. Day 3 of the start of the construction: half of the school marked ✅ making of brick samples with laterite sand with cement and clay ✅ Thank you team, you are rocking it 👊 We are so happy to announce that the construction of the school in Marsassoum has started! The NGO Let's Build My School and the workers have finished demolishing the existing structures that the plot had, they have also leveled the ground and they have tested the local soil to use it in the future to make the bricks. We are happy to announce the start of the construction of our 3rd school in Senegal in January 2022…and therefore: the 3rd edition of LBMS One-Week Volunteer trip from 21.05.2022 to 29.05.2022 The school is located in Marssassoum, Casamance which is in the southern part of Senegal. It is an existing high school, lacking from properly built facilities. It is currently made of woven bamboo walls and zinc roof. Due to its fragile structure, it collapses often, causing the classes to stop. In 2020, Archstorming organised an architectural competition for us. Carlos, Santiago and Maurizio from SOMStudio in Colombia won the 1st prize with a design made of earth bricks. We are all joining forces to build this beautifully designed project for 135 students. We will be recruiting 10 volunteers from all around the world. 21.05: Arrival Day. We will pick you up from the airport and drive you to the hotel where we will settle for a week. 22.05: It is a free day to rest, get to know each other and explore the surrounding nature before we get to work! 23.05 – 27.05: from 9 AM to 5PM we build together with the local team. Lunch will be served on site. No specific skills in construction are needed, only your good energy! 28.05: Resting day before departure. 29.05: Departure Day. We will drive you back to the airport, your brain and heart full of unforgettable memories. The foundations, ground floor and second floor of the Tulum school have been built. See its progress in our Instagram page. Link here! TECHO Mexico completed last week the construction of their first new prototype house, that will be implemented all across the country. The characteristics of this new model are: - Easy ground transfer - Mass prefabrication - Installation in 2 days by unskilled labor - Easy addition of spaces, adaptable to the growth of the family - Reconfiguration to real estate TECHO Mexico and Archstorming organized a competition called Emergency Housing Mexico where we looked for designs for their new house. The winners were Luis Roberto Barillas, Marielos Beatriz Rosales, Milton José Martínez and Sara Beatriz Vásquez from El Salvador. Last August 16th 2020 the kids of the NGO Los Amigos de la Esquina, along with the members of the assossiation and Jonathan Kubben from Mom I'm Fine celebrated in a Mayan ritual the start of the construction of the new school made out of recycled plastic in Tulum, Mexico. Thank you to all who have made this possible! The school in Benga, Malawi, has started its construction this summer. The winners of our competition "African School Project" were Ben McMillan and DeQuales Thompson from Texas (USA) and have been actively participating in all the phases of the design process. |
