SPECIAL HONORABLE MENTION

CURITIBA, BRAZIL
The proposal comes from the understanding of the region where the equipment will be deployed, the district of Guijá in the Province of Gaza in Mozambique. It is extremely important to have an immersion in the local culture in order to meet the needs and respect the context. Thus, the next step was to structure a concept and a form based on both the understanding of space, the NGO's objectives and the social relevance of this idea.
The concept is structured in the word "ROOTS" and its meanings, where symbolically the girls are the plants that will have a secure and strong base represented by this project that is the root itself, helping them in their growth so that they can get wherever they want through education. This idea reinforces that learning, discovering, running and playing are the roots of a girl's childhood, so that she can become a strong woman with a beautiful future.
The construction of the form and the spatial intentions are summarized in the creation of a central axis that distributes and organizes the volumetry and its functions, valuing the existing trees. Thus, connection relationships were sought after in several ways by working with visual permeability and a dynamic space, which mixes the regular with the organic, using interesting paths and areas both for socializing and for learning. Each environment was designed with the objective of meeting the needs of the girls, including areas such as vegetable gardens, orchards, chicken coop, arts and crafts room and computer room, so that there is greater intellectual development and generation of income and consumption.
When designing, everything was structured thinking about the best cost-benefit and quality spaces, so among the materials are adobe and wood, praising the culture, traditions and ease of construction, together with steel in the roofs bringing technology, resistance and durability. As for the sustainable aspects of this proposal, they will cover self-sufficiency, renewable energy generation, rainwater collection, productivity and recycling.
It is a complete project, with simplicity and delicacy in the details that incorporates the concept and the local context in its design. The ROOTS Project intends to bring in its composition the union of good architecture with a safe, functional and low-cost space for girls to put down roots and go far.
