With the goal of the post-typhoon regeneration of Siargao barangays, the group aims to design with a holistic and macro approach, focusing on the local transport sector. There remains a need to provide designated and dignified spaces for the motor taxi culture of Siargao as current provisions fail to meet spatial requirements and address user comfort. In an attempt to foster the motor taxi economy and local tourism, and to improve transportation infrastructure, an urban element in the form of motor taxi stations shall be introduced.
Through an evaluation of user needs and conducting interviews with locals, the concept of a self-sustaining system was formulated. Guided by this concept of being able to stand on its own, the design maximizes its applications with (1) renewable energy, (2) resource and solid waste management, and (3) community involvement.
The terminal is composed of different spaces including: a waiting area with seating and device charging service, a loading area for riders and passengers, and a sanitary area with a toilet and washing area. To fully achieve its purpose, resource collection and material recovery functions were added to the structure. This design is a reimagination of what a motor taxi station can potentially be.
