Dear all participants,
While you are all working on the competition for the children of Marssassoum, here is an email regarding the volunteer trips we usually organise. During the construction of each school project, we organise a one-week trip where volunteers from all around the world, coming from different backgrounds (not necessarily from the architecture or construction field) join us to build the school. Together, side by side with our local team and the community, we all dig in, get our hands dirty to raise the walls of the future school.

This time, the school built will be the winner project of the competition you are participating in. After the winner is announced at the end of December 2020, we will review the winning team's design in detail in order to make it happen. We will then proceed to the fundraising part in 2021 so we can plan the school construction for the end of 2021 - beginning of 2022. We will get back to you once the school construction programme is set and the exact dates of the volunteer trips will be fixed.
If you are willing to be part of the adventure, you will then need to apply. More details will be explained by email when the applications will be open 4 months prior to the volunteer trip. We will also advertise on social media so no worries, you won't miss your chance to apply. We work to give the opportunity to the maximum number of people who want to join, even if we need to organize several volunteer trips. The winner's team will have a place as priority in the volunteer trip.

A few info on the volunteer trip:
Each volunteer needs to fundraise 800 GBP prior to the trip. 30% of the sum raised covers the costs related to the volunteers (accomodation, food and transport) and 70% will serve to buy the construction materials of the school construction. The cost of the plane ticket isn't covered by LBMS. We do arrange your pick-up and drop-off from the airport, and will take care of you from your arrival in Senegal to your departure back to where you come from!
Just so you can have an idea of how the trip is usually organised, here is the programme of the last trip (for the construction of our second school which was in Tivaouane Peulh), which was planned for February 2020 but had to be cancelled due to COVID:
PROGRAMME VOLUNTEER TRIP FEBRUARY 2020
Saturday 22.02: You arrive in Dakar where we will be welcoming you and dropping you off to your hotel for the night.
Sunday 23.02: We will pick you up in the morning and drive to Lake Retba (Lac rose), 30km from Dakar, where we will settle for the week. The afternoon will be free for activities, swimming or quad riding in the neighbouring desert are good options.
Monday 24.02 – Friday 28.02: We will head to Tivaouane Peulh, put our helmets on and build with the local team every day from 9AM to 5PM. Lunch will be served on site.
Saturday 29.02: We will relax by the Lake and head to Dakar by the end of the day where we will drop you off to your hotel for the night.
Sunday 01.03: Times for goodbyes if you are flying back home or going to explore the country.
As you are very well aware of, the location of the next school is in Marssassoum, so the arrival airport will need to be Ziguinchor (national flights from Dakar Airport or Banjul Airport are frequent).
We hope the explanation of our volunteer trip will warm your heart and make you dream further. Whether you are the winner or not, by participating in the competition, you are already acting very importantly in the school project. We are very grateful to each of you and will be extremely happy to have you build with us on site.
We wish you the best of luck in the competition for the next weeks and are looking forward to discovering your proposal.
